Opened in 1997, the Confederation Bridge links the provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island via the trans-Canada highway across the Abegweit Passage of the Northumberland Strait. At 12.9 km (8 miles) it is Canada's longest bridge and the world's longest bridge over ice-covered waters.
